Summary profile – early intervention: class or resource

Complete only for children prior to school age who are requesting access to an early intervention class or resource.

There are 3 early intervention provisions

1. Early intervention support class (EI): Children from 3 years to 6 years (school entry age) who have a disability are eligible. Each session operates for a minimum of two and a half hours and includes five to eight children depending on the individual needs of the children in the group. Each child usually attends for two or three sessions per week. There is some flexibility in how local classes operate.

2. Early intervention resource: Early intervention class teachers collaborate in planning personalized learning and support for specific students at preschools.

3. Transition support teacher early intervention: The transition support teacher works with the student prior to them starting school and continues to provide support into the student’s first year at school. Access is not via an acess request but by contacting your local student support and specialist programs team.

These provisions are often required for the following year, but may be immediate or the following term depending on when the access request is submitted.
