Distance ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø

It is the role of the Learning and Support Team Coordinator to complete this section.

The distance education section is included in an access request when ‘Distance ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø Support’ is chosen by the author in the set up section. The author should also add any other support document sections specified in the student’s disability confirmation.

Access to distance education is not a provision of choice and students must meet one of the conditions of full time enrolment outlined in the distance education procedures to be eligible for enrolment.

Only three categories of distance education require an access request application:

  • 2.8 – students with additional learning and support needs
  • 2.9 – transition for students with significant support needs
  • DESU - Distance ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø Support Unit (Sir Eric Woodward Memorial School) – specialist distance mode of delivery for isolated students with a confirmed moderate to severe intellectual disability.

Reference should be made to the Distance ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø Procedures to assess if distance education is available for the circumstances of the student and the most appropriate category.

A critical requirement for all categories of distance education is that there is a home supervisor who meets the conditions in the five common requirements for enrolment (see procedures guide).

Appendix A and sample transition management plans are available at the back of the distance education enrolment procedures document.

Distance ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø category 2.8 is available to students with a disability confirmation (any disability and also special considerations).

Consideration should be given to the availability of a support class in the local area before distance education.

Distance ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø category 2.9 is available to students with or without a disability confirmation for a period that should not exceed 200 school days to support transition back to the home school or post school destination.

This category is not available to a student not enrolled in a NSW Public School as it is intended as a transition for the student back to their local school.

An application for the Distance ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø Support Unit (DESU) would normally only have this priority as it is intended for students with moderate to severe intellectual disability who are geographically isolated from an appropriate specialist support class. If a student is being considered for this category and a local service is available, clear and explicit documentation of intervention strategies that have been exhausted in the local setting must be included in the application.
