Remove other parent

Remove other parent function allows you to 'detach' or remove an other parent. Effectively deleting them from the family model. This is most likely to describe a family event or to resolve a data entry issue.

What is the main family and other family?

The main family is the parent/carer(s) who live with the student. The other family contains the parent/carer (almost always a biological parent) who doesn't live at the students home. So a typical example may see a mother and her defacto partner/new husband being listed as parent/carers 1 and 2 and the father being listed as the 'other parent'.

The example below shows the Burton family, in this scenario Maria lives with her mother. Her Father, Richard, is leaving the country and wishes no further contact with Maria.

Simply click on the remove other parent' icon.

Then confirm you wish to remove the other parent. Note, by answering no here, you can effectively detach the other parent from this student but not from any siblings.

The student in this example now has no other parent.

Handy hint: Sometimes this action is needed because you have added more than one 'other parent' and they have the same details in the system twice. For example you may have 2 other parents 'Tom Smith' and you want to delete one of them (as its a duplicate). First click on each Tom Smith and look at their details (address etc) then decide which one you want to delete. It is a good idea to then change that persons last name to Delete. So when using the Remove Other Parent function and you are asked if you want to remove Tom Smith or Tom Delete it will be obvious.
