Switch main family
Switch main family function lets you very quickly swap the main family for the other family.
What is the main family and other family ?
The Main Family is the parent/carer(s) who live with the student. The other family contains the parent/carer (almost always a biological parent) who doesn't live at the students home. So a typical example may see a mother and her defacto partner/new husband being listed as parent/carers 1 and 2 and the father being listed as the 'other parent'.
It is important to realise in ERN the other parent is in a 'family'. Indeed a student could have more than one other parent. This could be to describe an international student living with a homestay parent and the biological parents are the 'other family' or perhaps a child living with grandparents having two separate 'other' parents (mum and dad).
In this example we see Maria Burton is currently residing with her father (the main family).
Once selected you must confirm that it is now going to be Miz Taylor who will be the 'main' family for the student.
It's as simple as that.
