Psychology Graduate Scholarship Program

Your role
The NSW Department of ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø is the largest education provider in Australia with over 2,200 schools and over 800,000 students. It is also one of the largest employers of psychologists in NSW.
As a school psychologist within our school counselling service, you will have the opportunity to work with a diverse range of students from Kindergarten to year 12 in a variety of school settings.
You will work as part of a team of professionals, applying your psychological expertise to guide and support students to thrive and succeed.
School psychologists:
- provide counselling to students individually and in groups.
- assess students with specific wellbeing and learning needs.
- collaborate with education and external practitioners, families, and other agencies to provide multidisciplinary student mental health support.
- contribute to the social, emotional, and academic development of students in consultation with families and school staff.
Scholarship benefits
- up to $22,000 tuition allowance for full-time, Commonwealth-supported students
- up to $10,000 appointment allowance, depending on appointment location
- $1,500 textbook and incidentals allowance
- $4,000 placement allowance
- supervised practicum placements in schools
- ongoing professional support to complete psychologist registration requirements, including provision of the supervised internship
- on graduation you receive employment as a school psychologist (provisional) in NSW public schools with a highly competitive starting salary.
Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for the scholarship, an applicant must:
- be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
- hold a current NSW driver’s licence and be able to drive on their own
- hold a NSW Working with Children Check clearance or be able to obtain one
- meet entry requirements into the Master of Professional Psychology (School Psychology) program, including Charles Sturt University’s independent application, interview and referees report process. Advice on applying for entry into the Master's program will be provided during the department’s merit selection process.
- be willing to accept an appointment as a permanent full-time school psychologist in a NSW public school in an agreed area of workforce need on completion of studies for a minimum period of three years
Following a review of the department’s vaccination mandate, from 9 October 2023, staff working in schools for specific purpose (SSPs), Assisted Travel Support Officers (ATSOs) and Assisted Travel Program (ASTP) drivers are no longer required to be double-vaccinated against COVID-19 or hold a medical contraindication.
Staff working in hospitals and Juvenile Justice Centre school will still be required to comply with the vaccination requirements as determined by NSW Health and the Department of Communities and Justice respectively.
