NSW Renewable Energy Skills Strategy
The NSW Renewable Energy Skills Strategy aims to help develop the skilled workforce needed to deliver the Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap and ensure the Roadmap delivers skills and employment legacies for local communities.
Background
The NSW Government has made the successful delivery of its Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap (the Roadmap) a strategic priority, committing to a whole-of-government effort to support its implementation. Developing the skilled workforce needed to deliver the Roadmap will be a significant challenge and opportunity, with the Roadmap expected to create thousands of jobs across the state, many in areas of existing or projected skills shortage.
Aims and pillars
The NSW Government has developed the Renewable Energy Skills Strategy (the strategy) to help meet the skills needs of the Roadmap and ensure it delivers skills and employment outcomes for local communities, particularly in regional areas and for under-represented groups.
The strategy is built around five pillars, which aim to improve:
- Awareness – so that students are informed about, interested in and get a taste of renewable energy pathways
- Access – so that students can access renewable energy pathways where there are renewable energy jobs
- Support – so that students are supported through renewable energy education, training and employment pathways
- Equity – so that under-represented cohorts have a fair share of renewable energy opportunities
- Mobility – so that employers can access skilled workers from other sectors, regions and countries to meet critical skills gaps.
