It is fair to say the Trbojevic family are as much about public education as they are rugby league.

Sea Eagles superstars Jake, Tom and Ben - as well as their other brother Luke - all went to Mona Vale Public School before continuing their education at Pittwater High School.

With dad John making the goalposts for Mona Vale Public School’s sports ground and mum Melissa working at the school’s canteen - as well as in an official capacity at Narrabeen Sports High School - their footy and schooling were always very much intertwined.

Perhaps the only thing to be debated is who was the best student?

“Well, I was the smartest and that’s the only question,” Tom said with a laugh as he returned with his brothers to their primary school ahead of Public ����vlog���� Week.

And the stats back that up, with the record showing Tom secured an HSC ATAR of 94.3 before going on to complete a Bachelor of Applied Finance and Bachelor of Economics at Macquarie University.

But being a good student can take various forms.

“I wouldn’t say I was the teachers’ pet, but I was never in trouble,” Jake offered.

And Ben?

“He was in my Year 6 class and a pest!” his former teacher Fiona Kelsall, who is still teaching at the school, said.

“Just kidding. He was school captain, so he had a lot of official duties. He’d come out and kick a ball around with one of the boys from the special needs unit. They were all great boys.

“They’ve all worked so hard, and it is great to see them back here.”

Mobbed by students as they made their way around the grounds, the trio have made regular visits to the school since their time at both Mona Vale and Pittwater, and all have fond memories.

“It’s always great to come back,” Ben said.

“The kids here love their sport, love their footy and it’s good to see them with a smile on their faces.”
