What is the NSW Government’s commitment regarding co-educational public high schools?
The NSW Government is committed to providing all families with access to a co-educational public high school option by 2027.
Several factors were considered to support delivering this commitment, including enrolment data assessments and a review of intake areas in suburbs where students previously had access to only a single-sex public high school.
Will Canterbury Boys and Canterbury Girls high schools become co-educational to meet the government’s commitment to guarantee access to a co-educational public high school?
The department has met the commitment for families living in the Canterbury Girls High School intake area by extending the intake areas of nearby co-educational high schools. These families now have a guaranteed co-educational option of either Dulwich High School of Visual Arts and Design, Kingsgrove High School, Kingsgrove North High School, Marrickville High School or Strathfield South High School as per their residential address. These intake area adjustments ensure families have clear and equitable pathways to co-educational learning environments within their local community.
