Teacher leaders

The SLI’s Teacher Leader Development Program (TLDP) offers tailored support and professional development opportunities to help teacher leaders move into formal leadership roles and progress in their careers.

Teacher leaders are classroom teachers whose sphere of influence has expanded to impact positively both on the learning of students beyond their classroom, and on their colleagues.

Importantly, teacher leaders are the formal leaders of tomorrow in NSW public schools. By identifying and developing teacher leaders we are ensuring that schools and students will continue to benefit from effective and impactful school leadership into the future.

Teacher Alex Ko talls about the benefits of taking part in the TLDP with a group of colleagues.

I’d say that if you’re willing to invest in the teacher leader program then give it a go.

There’s 6 of us at our school that have all signed up and benefitted in various and different ways, having different goals, different mentors.

And yet we’ve all come away with something valuable about our own practice and our own selves.

I suppose it’s a helpful structure, all in all, that will scaffold and allow you to work out where it is you want to go.

The advantage of having multiple colleagues with us, there’s 6 of us in total, meant that our breakout space time, our discussion time was face to face and it was grounded within our context.

We all came from different stages, teaching stages and some, in our EALD space. But despite all our different roles and hats that we word, we were able to speak to a similar context.
