Supporting middle leaders across our schools

The School Leadership Institute (SLI) team has been visiting schools across the state this week delivering professional learning sessions to support and strengthen the leadership of assistant principals and head teachers.

First up was a visit to Chalmers Road School in Sydney to support the Strathfield Middle Leader Network. The SLI has been working closely with principals and middle leaders in this network over the past few months, delivering tailored sessions designed to support the growth of all leaders, with a current focus on developing collaborative cultures in their schools.

The SLI also presented at a conference for Assistant Principals, Curriculum & Instruction, held at the Southern Cross School of Distance ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø in Ballina this week. Around 100 middle leaders from across the north of NSW received an overview of the work of the SLI, as part of a broader professional learning session on leadership. Similar sessions have also been held at Mildura and Orange this year.

Finally, SLI Director Joanne Jarvis and principals Karen Maraga and Corinna Robertson visited Grafton to deliver the final in-person professional learning to principals and middle leaders taking part in our Rural, Regional and Remote Middle Leaders Program.

This was the third time the SLI has worked with leaders from the Grafton and Clarence Valley networks, exploring the key drivers of middle leadership effectiveness and how they can be applied to schools in regional and rural settings. Visits are also planned in 2025 to Deniliquin, Broken Hill, the Namoi Valley and the Central West.
