A word from our Nanga Mai Awards principal partner and sponsors

The at the University of Newcastle is proud to be the principal partner of the Nanga Mai Awards.

For over four decades, The Wollotuka Institute has stood as a beacon of strength, cultural integrity, and academic excellence for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Rooted in the principles of self-determination and community, we have worked tirelessly to create pathways into higher education that honour our knowledges, stories, and culture.

Wollotuka is proud to represent the staff, students, and communities across our footprint. We honour those who came before us—who opened doors and laid foundations—and we are privileged to carry their legacy forward. We acknowledge the power of higher education to transform lives—not only of individuals, but of entire communities. It changes the way our people experience classrooms, healthcare, courtrooms, and other systems. When our mob return home to community they bring with them knowledge and tools to advocate, uplift, and lead.

To every student, family, and community represented here: your success is our shared celebration. May your journey continue to inspire and uplift generations to come.

As we celebrate the outstanding achievements of our young people, we also recognise the shared commitment of all higher education institutions that provide culturally safe and inclusive spaces for our mob. These institutions walk alongside us, ensuring that the journey to and through higher education is both academically enriching and culturally affirming.
