Rationale

This guide and self-reflection provides schools with key information and examples of strategies and processes that could guide the effective establishment, governance and monitoring of an Aboriginal ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø Committee within their school.

The development of this resource ensures that the voices of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander staff, students, families and communities are heard in the decision-making processes that occur within a school. Through strong relationships, collaboration, and partnerships with all other members of the whole school community we will see Aboriginal students achieve their aspirations and educational potential.

The Aboriginal ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø Committee should be an active and sustainable leadership group with a school established in consultation and collaboration with the Local Aboriginal ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø Consultative Group (AECG) and/or relevant community groups to identify various strategies and/or initiatives contextually appropriate to the local whole school community. The Aboriginal ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø Committee, partners with the school executive team and will provide support to the development and implementation of the School Improvement Plan.

This resource aligns with the School Excellence Framework theme 'community engagement' by establishing an effective Aboriginal ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø Committee and following the guidelines that are provided within this resource, a school can demonstrate that it has a strong culture of inclusion that reflects the richness and diversity of the wider school community. There is a shared commitment to school priorities which support the success of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students and the school partners with the Aboriginal community to support equitable outcomes.
