Science and Technology K−6 sample units align with the department’s scope and sequence. The structure follows NESA’s sample whole school curriculum plan. Four sample units for Early Stage 1 will be released in a phased approach across 2025 and 2026.

This unit teaches students to identify the five sense organs and their functions and how they use these to enhance their observations. Students investigate how living things survive and compare the characteristics of living and non-living things. They group animals based on their characteristics.

Unit 1 – Science and Technology, Early Stage 1 (staff only) (DOCX 28.2 MB)

This unit teaches students about the properties of materials through observation and manipulation. They pose questions, describe material uses in everyday objects, and test how materials respond to physical actions. Students distinguish between needs and wants to identify how designed products meet needs.
