The department supports families by establishing Out of School Hours Care (OOSH) across NSW Government schools. OOSH enriches social and learning experiences for primary school-age children.

OOSH services include a mix of before and after school care, and vacation care. OOSH providers often also offer services on pupli-free days.

Most services operate before school from 7am, and after school until 6pm. Some services operate from as early as 6am through to 6:30pm, to meet their community needs.

Families with children attending OOSH may be eligible for the Child Care Subsidy. OOSH services are regulated under the and the .

The department's Shared Use of Schools team use information from parents (surveys), principals, and OOSH providers, to design OOSH solutions for NSW Government school cimmunities.
